My name is Julie Felzien and I started taking lessons at the age of seven near Hastings, Nebraska. While in high school, I studied with Hastings College Music Department faculty. I continued my studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor of Music degree.
I’ve been a private instructor since 1999 and my teaching philosophy is one of aiming to help people have as much fun playing the piano as I do. I strive to provide positive musical experiences that can possibly later apply to playing other instruments or singing. My goals are to show how to break down a large project or goal in small, workable pieces. This can be applied to many situations in learning – not just playing piano. I wish to instill in others love and respect for music. Playing the piano has enabled me to stumble into many strange and wonderful musical experiences and friendships. I encourage and motivate others to discover how fun it is to reap the rewards that come from investing personal time, effort and patience in learning to read music and play piano.
In addition to teaching, I am also a member of the following ensembles:
Noteworthy Ensemble – Classical salon music for flute and piano with flutist Genevieve Randall. We perform at restaurants, weddings, chocolate tasting parties, anniversaries, soup suppers and birthdays.
Marshall Trio – Flute, Clarinet, and Piano
